Anna Hazare Criticizes Arvind Kejriwal's Arrest, Recalls Past Association

top-news

Social activist Anna Hazare has weighed in on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, expressing disappointment over the turn of events and highlighting their previous association in the anti-corruption movement.

Hazare remarked, "His arrest (Kejriwal) is because of his own deeds," indicating a sense of accountability for Kejriwal's actions. He also expressed sadness at Kejriwal's shift from raising voices against liquor to formulating liquor policies as Delhi CM.

The relationship between Hazare and Kejriwal dates back almost a decade, when they were part of a prominent anti-corruption movement. Kejriwal's subsequent formation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) aimed at creating a corruption-free government and working for societal welfare, but this trajectory led to strains in his ties with Hazare.

Hazare's remarks reflect a history of criticism towards Kejriwal, including previous statements where he mentioned distancing himself to protect his reputation. The recent arrest of Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged corruption and money laundering related to Delhi's excise policy for 2021-22 has further exacerbated their public discourse.

Kejriwal's decision to withdraw his plea against arrest from the Supreme Court underscores the legal complexities surrounding the case. His counsel, Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, indicated plans to contest remand proceedings in a trial court before returning to the apex court with another petition.

The fallout from Kejriwal's arrest, coupled with Hazare's critical stance, adds layers to the ongoing political and legal narratives shaping Delhi's governance and anti-corruption efforts.
